How to Upgrade Your VPS Plan Without Reinstalling

Move your VPS or VDS to a plan with more CPU, RAM and disk from the panel, paying only the difference and keeping your IP and files. Step by step.

To upgrade your VPS or VDS plan, open your server in the panel, click Upgrade plan in the server menu, choose More power, pick a bigger plan and confirm. The panel creates an invoice for the difference until your next renewal; when you pay it, your server restarts once with the new CPU, memory and disk. Your IP address and your files stay exactly as they are, and you don't reinstall anything.

Note

Only the owner of the server can change the plan. People you share the server with never see prices or upgrades. If the upgrade option says "Upgrades are paused for now", try again later or open a ticket.

Before you upgrade

  • The server must be active, and you must not have another upgrade waiting for payment.
  • You can move to a bigger plan of the same type in the same location. If there are no bigger plans, the wizard says "There are no bigger plans in this location".
  • The restart at the end stops and starts the server, so schedule the upgrade for a quiet moment and save open work. Services that start with the system will come back by themselves; check the ones that don't.
  • Not sure you need more power? Look at your history first in monitor your VPS resources.

Upgrade step by step

  1. Sign in to the panel and open your VPS.

  2. Open the Upgrade plan wizard from any of these places:

    • The server menu, Upgrade plan.
    • The Upgrade button of the plan card on the Overview tab.
    • The Settings tab, under Plan & billing, More power, Upgrade plan.
  3. What to change: choose More power ("A bigger plan: more CPU, memory and disk. Same IP, same files").

  4. Choose: the plans bigger than yours are listed with their CPU, memory and disk. Each one shows "Today X · then Y/month": the amount you pay today is the difference until your next renewal, and from then on you pay the new plan. If a plan says there is no room on your server's machine right now, ask support through a ticket.

  5. Confirm: the summary shows From, To, You pay today and Then, per month. Click Create invoice and pay.

  6. Pay the invoice with your usual method. See how to pay an invoice.

After payment, the new resources are applied automatically and the server restarts once. The disk grows without needing to reinstall.

If you don't pay right away

While the invoice is open, the server page shows a banner: "Your upgrade to plan is waiting for payment". It has two buttons, Pay and Cancel upgrade.

  • By default you have 48 hours. If the invoice isn't paid by the date shown, the upgrade is cancelled by itself and the reserved space is released.
  • You can cancel it at any time before paying with Cancel upgrade.
  • You can't start a new upgrade or change the disk while one is waiting.

Check the new resources

After the restart, log in over SSH (connect to your VPS) and check:

bash
nproc
free -h
df -h /

On Windows, open Task Manager and look at the Performance tab. The panel also shows the new plan in the Settings tab and in the Activity tab as "Upgrade applied".

Other changes you can make

  • More disk only: if you need storage and not CPU or RAM, use the More disk option. See add an extra IP or more disk.
  • A smaller plan: if this option is enabled on your account, the wizard also offers A smaller plan. It applies when the period you already paid ends and restarts the server once. The disk never shrinks, so a plan whose disk is smaller than yours may not be allowed. Until then you can use Cancel downgrade.

Troubleshooting

  • The Upgrade button is disabled. The server must be active and nobody can have a pending upgrade. Pay or cancel the pending one.
  • I only see "Your plan today". There is no bigger plan in the same location and type. Contact us if you need a different one; moving to another type or location means a new server.
  • I paid but the resources didn't change. The server restarts when the payment is confirmed, which can take a few minutes. If CPU and RAM still don't match after that, open a ticket with your invoice number.
  • The plan is greyed out for lack of room. Our team can help. Open a ticket from the panel.

FAQ

Will I lose my files or IP when I upgrade?

No. The upgrade keeps your IP address and your files, and it doesn't reinstall anything.

How much will I pay today?

The wizard shows the exact amount for each plan: the difference between the plans until your next renewal. From the renewal on, you pay the new plan price.

How long does the upgrade take?

After the payment is confirmed, the server restarts once. Most of the time is that restart.

Can I upgrade a VDS the same way?

Yes. VPS and VDS servers use the same Upgrade plan wizard in their panel.

Can I go back to a smaller plan?

Only if downgrades are enabled for your account, and never below the disk you already have. They apply at the end of the period you paid.
