Custom Domain for Your Minecraft Server (SRV and CNAME)
Connect a domain like play.yourbrand.com to your game server so players join without an IP or port. DNS records step by step, with automatic checks.
To use your own domain on a game server, open your server, go to Network & domain → Ports & domain, press Connect my domain and type a subdomain you own, such as play.yourbrand.com. The panel then shows the DNS records to create at your domain provider and checks them for you every few minutes. Once they are detected, your players join with your domain instead of an IP address.
Server names and custom domains are available when they are enabled for your service. If you do not see the Your free name and Your own domain cards in Ports & domain, your server still works with its IP address and port. See how to join your game server.
How it works
Every server that has this feature comes with a free name, such as game-1234-play.sv-solumecore.com. For Minecraft Java, SolumeCore creates the records that tell the game which IP and port to use, so players type only the name and no port. If we ever move your server, the name keeps working.
A custom domain is simply a name of yours that points at that free name with CNAME records. Because of that, you never have to change anything when the server's IP or port changes.
Before you start
- You need a domain you own and access to its DNS settings (at your registrar or DNS provider, such as Cloudflare, GoDaddy or Namecheap).
- Use a subdomain like
play.yourbrand.cominstead of the bareyourbrand.com. Your website keeps working and a CNAME is not allowed on the bare domain at most providers. - Your free name must already be published. If you see Wait until your free name is published, wait a minute and reload.
- You can connect up to 3 domains per server by default.
Connect your domain
- Sign in at dashboard.solumecore.com, open Game servers and select your server.
- Open the Network & domain tab and the Ports & domain section.
- In Your own domain, press Connect my domain.
- In Which domain do you want to use?, type the name without
http://, for exampleplay.yourbrand.com, and press Next. - In DNS records, create the records shown at your domain provider. Copy each value with one click. Each record shows whether it is required or optional.
- Leave the window open or close it: we keep checking on our own. When the records are detected, the domain changes from Waiting for DNS to Active, and the card shows "Done: players join with your domain".
The records you create
For Minecraft Java, the first record is the one that matters:
| Type | Name | Points to | Needed |
|---|---|---|---|
CNAME |
_minecraft._tcp.play.yourbrand.com |
_minecraft._tcp.<your free name> |
Required |
CNAME |
play.yourbrand.com |
<your free name> |
Optional |
The first record tells Minecraft which port to use. With only the second one, the game finds the IP but not the port. The second one makes the name work on its own, for example for Bedrock or for players who type the port by hand. For other games, the second record is the required one.
Use the exact values the panel shows. Some providers want the name without your domain at the end, such as _minecraft._tcp.play. If you use Cloudflare, keep the cloud grey (DNS only) on both records.
Let your provider do it for you
If your DNS provider supports automatic setup, the wizard shows a button such as "Let your provider do it for you". It opens your provider with the records ready and you only have to accept.
Change or remove the name
- Change the free name. In Your free name, press Change name. Use lowercase letters, numbers and hyphens, 3 to 40 characters. By default you can change it up to 3 times a day, and your custom domains must then point to the new name.
- Back to the original. Use Back to the original to return to the default name.
- Remove a custom domain. Open More options next to it and choose Remove domain. The records you created at your provider stay there, so delete them if you no longer use them.
Troubleshooting
- It stays on "Waiting for DNS". DNS changes can take a few minutes, sometimes an hour. Press Check now. Verify that the record name and value match exactly and that you did not put the CNAME on the bare domain.
- "That domain is already active on another server". Remove it from the other server first.
- Players can join with the domain but only with the port. The required
_minecraft._tcprecord is missing or has not propagated. Check it with a DNS checker. - Bedrock players cannot connect. Bedrock does not read SRV records: use the domain and type the port separately.
- Name not published. If you see Name not published yet, we retry on our own. Meanwhile use the numeric address shown in Ports & domain.
FAQ
How do I get a custom domain for my Minecraft server?
Buy or use a domain you own, then connect a subdomain such as play.yourbrand.com from Network & domain → Ports & domain → Connect my domain, and create the CNAME records the panel shows.
Do I need to open a port or type the port number?
For Minecraft Java with the required record in place, players type only the domain. For Bedrock and other games they type the domain and the port.
Can I use my domain without the play. part?
It is better not to. A CNAME on the bare domain conflicts with your website and mail at most providers. A subdomain keeps everything working.
Does the domain keep working if my server moves?
Yes. The records point to your free name, and we keep that name up to date with the server's IP and port.
