Minecraft Whitelist, Operators and Bans
Turn on the whitelist on your Minecraft server, make a player an operator, kick or ban someone and unban them, from the panel or with console commands.
To manage who can play on your Minecraft server, open the Players tab and go to Access. There you can make people operators, build a whitelist so only listed players can join, and ban players or IP addresses. Everything goes through the server console behind the scenes, so the server has to be running.
Before you start
- The server must be online. The panel sends commands to the running server, so if it is off the buttons are disabled and the panel asks you to turn it on.
- You need permission to send console commands. The owner always has it. A guest with the Moderator role or higher can use these tools too.
- Player names must be real Minecraft usernames: 2 to 16 letters, numbers or
_.
Open the access lists
- Sign in to the SolumeCore panel and open your server.
- Go to Players and choose Access.
- Pick a list: Operators, Whitelist, Banned or Banned IPs. The number next to each name is how many entries it has.
You can also act on someone who is playing right now. In Online, click the ⋯ next to a player to Kick, Ban, Make operator or Add to whitelist.
Set up a whitelist
A whitelist makes your server private: only the people on it can join. It is ideal for a server with friends.
- In Access, open the Whitelist list.
- Type a Minecraft username and click Add. Repeat for everyone who should be allowed, including yourself.
- Switch on Only people on the whitelist can join. The panel asks you to confirm.
Add yourself before you turn the whitelist on. Once it is on, only listed players can join, and that includes you.
Until you switch it on, the panel reminds you that the whitelist is off and anyone can still join. To open the server again, switch it off. To remove a person, click Remove next to their name.
If you also want players who are online right now to be kicked when they are not on the list, turn on Enforce whitelist in server.properties.
Make a player an operator
Operators can use every command, including changing the world. Give it only to people you trust with the whole server.
- Open the Operators list.
- Type the Minecraft username and click Make operator, then confirm.
- To remove it, click Remove next to the name and confirm.
New servers have no operators. Make yourself one first, so you can use admin commands in the game. What an operator can do depends on Operator level in the server options (1 to 4, where 4 is everything).
Kick, ban and unban
- Kick drops a player now. They can come back whenever they want. You can give a Reason, which Minecraft shows to the player.
- Ban stops a player from joining until you unban them. Use Ban in the Banned list or from the ⋯ menu in Online.
- Unban removes the ban. Click it next to the player in the Banned list.
- Banned IPs blocks an IP address. Use it only for someone who keeps coming back with new accounts, because several people can share one IP.
Reasons are limited to 120 characters.
Do it from the console
All of the above are normal Minecraft commands. In the Console tab, type them without the slash:
op Steve
deop Steve
whitelist add Alex
whitelist remove Alex
whitelist on
whitelist off
whitelist list
kick Steve Please follow the rules
ban Steve Griefing
pardon Steve
ban-ip 203.0.113.7
pardon-ip 203.0.113.7
banlist playerspardon is the command that unbans. The same list lives in the files ops.json, whitelist.json, banned-players.json and banned-ips.json in your server's main folder.
Troubleshooting
- The buttons are disabled. Turn the server on. The panel warns you with "Turn the server on to manage players".
- A whitelisted friend cannot join. Check the spelling of the name: it has to match their Minecraft account exactly. If the server runs with Online mode off, accounts are not verified with Mojang and the whitelist can behave differently, so keep Online mode on whenever you can.
- The change does not show in the list. Minecraft writes these files with a short delay. Wait a moment or refresh.
- I locked myself out. Switch the whitelist off from the panel or run
whitelist offin the Console tab. If the server is down, editserver.propertiesand setwhite-list=false.
FAQ
How do I whitelist a player on a Minecraft server?
Open Players > Access > Whitelist, add their username and switch on Only people on the whitelist can join. You can also run whitelist add Name in the console.
How do I make someone an operator?
In Players > Access > Operators, type their username and click Make operator. In the console, use op Name.
How do I unban a player?
In Players > Access > Banned, find the player and click Unban. In the console, use pardon Name.
Can I ban someone while the server is off?
Not from the panel, because the panel needs the running server. You can start the server first, or edit banned-players.json in Files, although it needs the player's UUID and is easier to do with the server on.
