Reinstall or Reset Your Minecraft or Game Server
Reinstall your game server or reset your Minecraft world from the panel safely: what gets lost, how to back up first and which option to use.
To reinstall your game server, open your server, go to Settings → General, press Reinstall… and confirm by typing the server name. To reset only the Minecraft world, use World → Worlds & map and choose Reset or regenerate on that world instead. A reinstall runs the game installer again from scratch, so make a backup first: anything you uploaded or changed can be lost.
Reinstall, reset the world or restore a backup?
Pick the smallest option that solves your problem:
| What you want | What to use |
|---|---|
| Start a fresh Minecraft world, with or without the same seed | Reset or regenerate in Worlds & map |
| Go back to how the server was before something broke | Restore a backup (see game server backups) |
| Fix a broken installation or server files and start clean | Reinstall the server |
| Change the Minecraft version or loader | Version & installer (see change your Minecraft server version or type) |
| Reset one config file | Rename or delete the file in Files and start the server: many games create a fresh default file |
Make a backup first
- Open the Backups tab and press Create backup.
- Give it a name such as "Before reinstalling" and turn on Lock this backup so it cannot be replaced by accident.
- Wait until it shows as finished. Download it too if the world is important.
It takes a minute or a few, and it is the only way back if you lose something you needed. See game server backups.
Reinstall the server
A reinstall stops the server and replaces the files the installer creates (server.jar, libraries and default settings). What you uploaded or changed on top, such as worlds, plugins and configuration, can be lost. It cannot be undone.
- Sign in at dashboard.solumecore.com, open Game servers and select your server.
- Open the Settings tab and the General section.
- In the red card Reinstall the server, press Reinstall….
- In What happens, read the three points: the server stops and the installer runs again, the installer's files are replaced, and when it finishes the server is ready to start again, which usually takes a few minutes.
- If you have not made a backup, the wizard suggests it with Go to backups.
- In Confirm, type the server name as shown and press Reinstall now.
Afterward the panel shows Your server is being reinstalled while the node downloads the game and recreates the files. This part of the panel returns on its own when it finishes, and you can follow the progress in the console with Open the console. When it is done, press Start.
You need the Reinstall the server permission to do this. People you share the server with do not have it unless you give it to them.
Reset a Minecraft world
If you only want a new map, you do not need to reinstall.
- Stop the server first. While it runs, Minecraft writes the old world back when it shuts down.
- Open the World tab and go to Worlds & map.
- Find the world, open More actions and choose Reset or regenerate.
- In What to do, pick Start over with the same seed (the same terrain as day one, everything built is deleted) or Create a brand new world (a different seed or world type; leave the seed empty for a random one).
- In Backup, keep Back up the world first on. It is recommended, and the backup counts as one more backup in your plan.
- In Confirm, type the world's name and press Reset world (or Regenerate world).
The world, with its Nether and End, is deleted and a new one is generated the next time the server starts. Without a backup there is no going back.
Troubleshooting
- The reinstall button is missing. You need the permission to reinstall, or your account is not the owner.
- Installation failed. The panel shows Installation failed. Try the reinstall once more and, if it fails again, open a ticket from the panel with the server name.
- My world disappeared after reinstalling. Restore the backup you made, or upload the world again. See upload a Minecraft world.
- The reset did nothing. Make sure the server was off before you reset, then start it again.
FAQ
How do I reset my Minecraft server?
For a new map, use World → Worlds & map → Reset or regenerate. For a completely clean server, use Settings → General → Reinstall…. Back up first in both cases.
Will I lose my files if I reinstall?
You may. The panel warns that worlds, plugins and configuration you added can be lost. Make a backup and download anything important.
How long does a reinstall take?
Usually a few minutes. You can follow it in the console.
Can I reinstall without losing my world?
Back up the world first, reinstall and then restore it, or upload it again. For a version change, the panel notes that the world and plugins are kept when you reinstall to apply the new version, but still make a backup.
